PULMONARY SERVICES

The Pulmonary Services Department provides continuous hospital-wide comprehensive respiratory care services twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week for inpatients and for patients in the emergency department. All Respiratory Care Practitioners are licensed by the Ohio State Respiratory Care Board and provide patient services according to the physician’s order and in collaboration with the other members of the patient care team.

Respiratory Care includes assessment, treatment, clinical management, diagnostic testing, rehabilitation, instruction, and direct patient care interventions of those patients with deficiencies and abnormalities directly or indirectly within the cardiopulmonary system.

The Pulmonary Function Lab serves both inpatients and outpatients and is now located in the Center for Cardiovascular Services, on the hospital’s ground floor.

Pulmonary Function Testing services include:
• Pulmonary function screening
• Complete pulmonary function testing
• Plethysmography
• Pre & post bronchodilator pulmonary function tests
• Pulse oximetry
• Arterial blood gas sampling
• Methacholine challenge
• Low level exercise testing with pulse oximetry or ABGs

Pulmonary Services extends into the community through the pulmonary rehabilitation program, the Respiratory Forum (a pulmonary support group) and smoking cessation classes in coordination with the Summit County Tobacco Prevention Coalition.
